UNDERSTANDING SCAR TREATMENTS

At Heartland Aesthetica, we understand that scars can be a source of self-consciousness and discomfort. Our Scar Treatments offer a comprehensive and personalized approach to minimizing the appearance of scars, restoring your skin's natural beauty, and boosting your confidence.

WHAT IS A SCAR REVISION?

Scars can tell stories, but for many individuals, they may be a source of self-consciousness or discomfort. The good news is that advancements in medical aesthetics offer a range of scar revision treatments to minimize the visibility of scars and restore confidence. Scar Revision is a specialized procedure aimed at improving the appearance of scars resulting from injury, surgery, or skin conditions. We employ a range of techniques to address scars, whether they are raised, depressed, discolored, or have irregular textures.

UNDERSTANDING SCARS

  • Hypertrophic Scars: Raised, red scars that remain within the boundaries of the original wound.
  • Keloid Scars: Raised, thick scars that extend beyond the original wound site.
  • Atrophic Scars: Indentations or depressions in the skin, commonly seen with acne scars.
  • Contracture Scars: Tight, often painful scars resulting from burns or large wounds.

WHAT TREATMENTS ARE AVAILABLE?

Scar Treatment encompasses a range of techniques and procedures aimed at improving the appearance of scars. These include surgery, topical creams, microneedling, peels, laser therapy and many more.

*Products like creams or gels can be applied to help the wound heal properly. Choosing the right cream or gel for scar reduction depends on various factors, including the type of scar, skin type, and personal preferences. It's essential to be consistent with application in waiting for results. There are many options available, your provider will discuss at your consultation.

*Microneedling uses tiny needles to make pinprick wounds in the skin that stimulate the body’s natural healing process. Microneedling promotes the formation of new collagen, a protein essential for maintaining skin elasticity and texture. This collagen boost helps in filling and smoothing out scars, whether they are due to acne, surgery, or injuries. You can learn more about microneedling here.

*A chemical peel involves applying a chemical solution to the skin to exfoliate the upper layer and rejuvenate the layers underneath.  Chemical peels work by removing the top layer of damaged skin, unveiling a fresh, new layer underneath. This exfoliation process is instrumental in reducing the appearance of scars, especially those caused by acne or superficial injuries. In addition to exfoliating skin, chemical peels stimulate collagen production, a crucial protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin. *By promoting collagen synthesis, chemical peels help to fill in scars and improve overall skin texture. You can lean more about chemical peels here.

*In the quest for flawless skin, scars often stand as persistent reminders of past injuries, surgeries, or acne battles. Lasers are often used to resurface the skin, which promotes healing and new skin growth. At Heartland Aesthetica we offer a multitude of laser therapy treatment options. During the consultation the type and severity of scars are carefully examined, and a customized treatment plan is composed. This treatment plan may utilize several different lasers based on the appearance of the scar.

*Steroids can be injected into the scar and can flatten the scar, decreasing its redness as well. Steroid injections for scars involve the administration of corticosteroids directly into the scar tissue. Corticosteroids are powerful anti-inflammatory medications that work by reducing inflammation and inhibiting the immune response. This targeted approach can be particularly beneficial for certain types of scars, such as keloids and hypertrophic scars, where excessive collagen production and inflammation contribute to their raised and prominent appearance.

*If scars are depressed, fillers can be injected to help fill them back out so they blend with the surrounding tissue. Filler injections are particularly effective for atrophic scars, which are characterized by a loss of tissue. These include boxcar scars, ice pick scars, and rolling scars commonly associated with acne. The effects of dermal fillers are temporary, usually lasting one to three years, this provides patients with the opportunity to assess the results and decide whether to pursue additional treatments. Depending on the scar type and severity, multiple treatment sessions may be required to achieve the desired results. Over time, you will notice a significant improvement in the appearance, texture, and overall quality of your scar(s). These improvements may continue to enhance for several months as the skin heals and regenerates. You can learn more about fillers here.
