UNDERSTANDING FACIAL REDNESS (ROSACEA)

Rosacea is a common and chronic skin condition that primarily affects the face, causing redness, visible blood vessels, and sometimes small, pus-filled bumps or pustules. It typically begins after the age of 30 and tends to worsen over time if left untreated. Rosacea can vary in severity, with mild cases causing occasional facial flushing and more severe cases resulting in persistent redness and noticeable symptoms.

MORE ON FACIAL REDNESS/ROSACEA

The exact cause of rosacea is not fully understood, but it is believed to be influenced by a combination of genetic, environmental, and vascular factors. Rosecea can present in multiple different ways. The most common form is persistent redness on the central part of the face, particularly on the nose, cheeks, forehead, and chin. This redness can resemble a sunburn or a flush and is often accompanied by visible blood vessels (telangiectasia). Rosacea can cause intermittent or persistent flushing or blushing of the face. This redness may be triggered by various factors, such as spicy foods, alcohol, hot beverages, stress, or changes in temperature. Some individuals with rosacea may develop small, red bumps (papules) or pus-filled pimples (pustules) on the affected areas of their face, which can resemble acne. This subtype is sometimes referred to as "acne rosacea."  In rare cases, rosacea can lead to the thickening of the skin on the nose (rhinophyma), giving it a bulbous appearance.

Some individuals with rosacea may experience sensations of heat, burning, or stinging on their face.

Rosacea is a chronic condition, and while it cannot be cured, it can be effectively managed with medical treatment and lifestyle changes. At Heartland Aesthetica we can help manage your symptoms to help you lead a more comfortable an confident lifestyle.
