Learning About Latisse

Heartland Aesthetica is all about helping you feel your best in the most natural way possible, and Latisse® is one of our favorite ways to give your eyes that effortless "wow" factor. If you've ever stared in the mirror wishing your lashes were just a little longer, fuller, or darker—without piling on mascara or dealing with extensions—Latisse might be the simple upgrade you've been looking for. We're right here in Wichita, Kansas, and our team, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Vanessa Voge, loves helping folks achieve subtle, beautiful results that feel totally you.

So, What is Latisse?

Latisse is the only FDA-approved prescription treatment out there specifically for growing longer, thicker, and darker eyelashes. It started as a glaucoma eye drop where people noticed their lashes getting crazy long as a bonus side effect—so they turned it into this cosmetic gem (bimatoprost 0.03%).

Basically, it works by giving your lash follicles a gentle nudge: it stretches out the growth phase, so your lashes hang around longer and keeps encouraging new ones to pop up. You apply a tiny drop right at the base of your upper lashes every night, and over time—usually starting to show around 4 weeks, with the best results kicking in by 16 weeks—your lashes transform. Think naturally lush, no-fake-lash-needed vibes.

Who’s It For?

Pretty much anyone who feels like their lashes could use a boost—whether they're naturally sparse, thinning with age, or just not as dramatic as you'd like. It's great for folks dealing with hypotrichosis (fancy term for not-enough-lashes), but honestly, a lot of our patients just want that extra pop without the daily hassle.

We always chat with you first to make sure it's a good fit, reviewing your history and answering any questions. It's a prescription, so we handle that part right here at the clinic.

How Easy Is It to Use?

Super straightforward—it becomes part of your bedtime routine in no time:

  • Wash your face and take out contacts if you wear them (wait 15 minutes to pop them back in).
  • Grab one of the sterile applicators that come with it.
  • Put one drop on the applicator (not the tip!).
  • Gently swipe it along the base of your upper lash line—like drawing a super-thin eyeliner.
  • Do the other eye, blot any extra, and you're done.

Just once a day, usually at night. Stick with it nightly for those first 16 weeks to see the full magic, then many people drop to a few times a week to keep things looking great. If you stop completely, your lashes will slowly go back to how they were before—no big drama.

Keeping It Safe and Real

Latisse is well-studied and safe for most people when used as directed. Some folks notice mild stuff like a little redness, itchiness, or temporary darkening along the eyelid (which usually fades). In rare cases, there can be iris color changes (more likely if you have light eyes) or hair growth where the solution accidentally touches skin. We go over all this with you and give clear tips to avoid runoff.

If you've got eye issues like glaucoma or inflammation, check with your eye doc first. And heads up: only upper lashes, not lower or anywhere else!
